Question:

What do you feel if you've made a possibly life threatening mistake on the road but get away with it?

I accidentally cut off two cars (two lanes of traffic, fast to slow lane) on a freeway trying to keep up with my friends whom I was following. I thought I was in the clear but I was told later that any further back and they would have hit me.

Now I'm still scared even at home, and I'm thanking the road Gods every second for giving me that chance...

It was my first time driving alone on a freeway. Yes, don't tell me, I need more practice with someone, and yea I know that was a hazardous act.

  1. Somebody neglected to teach you something, mind you, I see every day people who make the same error.  Never change lanes at any speed, city street or highway, until you can see the car behind in the lane you want in your rear-view mirror, not the outside mirror, but the inside rear view mirror.  If you can see the whole front of the vehicle, there is plenty of room to change in safety.

It is good you are still willing to learn, I wish more were like you.  Far too many get mad at mistakes and blame somebody else instead of looking for the safe way to avoid a situation next time.  If you lived in Winnipeg I would like to take you out for a session to teach you some of the things that aren't part of the driver test, so aren't taught by most driving schools unless you enroll in a higher level course.

  2. It happens to everyone and it will happen again, you just need to always keep focus 100 percent on driving and as for what you fell.............you feel like an idiot and you take this and learn from it......

  3. Learn from it man. be a better driver just because everyone around could care less if they kill some one or them selves doesnt mean it is ok for you to think the same i use to speed like crazy and it wasn't till I ran someone and myself of a road that i slowed down but i wish i had learned sooner.

  4. I pulled out from a side road right in front of somebody when I first got my license. If there wasn't a little curb that he pulled up into he would have hit me. I made the mistake of looking left, right, left again and then going. Now I always look right again before I pull out. Learn from your mistakes!

  5. You should try to appease the Road Gods who are angry with you.  Not only for your stupidity, but because you called them road Gods.

These are not your lesser road Gods, but fully credentialed Road Gods (they were on the freeway). They do not like to be treated as subordinates.

The only way to appease them is to stay out of their 'sights' for one year. To stay out of their 'sights' (this is 'sights' as in gun sights.) you have to make sure they don't see you, and the only to do this is to not drive over 45 miles per hour. ie, don't drive on the freeway, for one year.

    Good luck.

  6. relief. now learn from it

  7. I don't know what ot tell you. You could have cost someone their life! Or your own!  Think before you react especially if it is only an exit your going miss. Remember that this is a crazy world and people have shot people on the road for probably less than that. Remember that It is always better to drive defensive than offensive.  A gun is no match for the speed of your car, or bike.
