I'm doing a presentation about Paris for my Urban Geography class but I do not want to be like everyone else and sound like a travel agency. I would like to focus on one or a couple things that really say "Paris". I know fashion is HUGE in Paris, but I really have no interest for it.. so if anyone has any other suggestions, that would be fantastic!

  1. lots of very interestings things for you :

  2. The incredible cultural wealth of the place : theaters, festivals, univesties, libraries, congresses etc etc

The possibility of walking around and discovering every day small "secret islands" in all districts

The feeling that you can find ALL in Paris in all fields -

shops, technics, tools, restaurants, populations, cultures, monuments etc

The central position of Paris in western Europe, and the constant influx of tourists, but also foreigner talents in all fields- Major world airports - Great trains going everywhere -

London within 2 hours - Frankfurt within 6 hours ( because of germans so long ) - Köln 3 hours

In Paris for who ever has  means, seems that the world "belongs to you"

  3. Ah g*y Paris!  Do you realise to jump into the river is in Seine!  Sacre Blue!

  4. Never been.  But I would like to see the Rue de Champs-Elysee.  As I understand the word Rue, it is a street.

Its where the main character in my favorite book (The Count of Monte Cristo) lived; I'd like to see what the writer (Alexandre Dumas) more or less envisioned for the setting of the book.

  5. What I like most about Paris is:

    1) The balance between work and life that the French make. They are not as driven as Americans to pursue material success. While they are productive when they work they work far less than Americans (or Brits). The 35 hour work week and 7 weeks of paid vacation a year are the norm in France and few would be willing to trade these for greater monetary reward.

    2) The value that the French place on rationality, intellectual curiosity, and philisophical inquiry. Not everyone in France is a philosopher but I find myself talking about serious subjects with informed people more often in France than I do in the USA.

    3) The appreciation of quality and the willingness to take the time to both acheive it and savour it. Thus France is a three course meal with wine that you take two or three hours to eat  and America is a burger with fries and a coke that you wolf down in 10 minutes.
