  1. Not sure what your question is.  

    Japan was very unfriendly to foreigners for quite some time, and then it controlled its contact with them by only opening certain ports to them.

    It wasn't until they realized that they were hurting militarily and economically from isolation that they began to open up.

    Hence, why they rejected missionaries.


  2. Just goes to show you that when a religion marches across the world telling potential converts that "Jesus is the only answer and if you do not convert we will kill you." It can backfire.
