  1. NaCl solution

    aka brine

  2. And now for something completely different ...

    You get the conjugate acid and conjugate base of HCl and NaOH.

    HCl(aq) + NaOH(aq) --> NaCl(aq) + HOH(l)

    ------- or --------

    You get a salt and water, as opposed to assault and battery.

    Enough joking around.  There's a misconception lurking in Gunjack's response that cries out to be fixed.

    NaCl + H2O -> NaOH + HCl

    But that is impossible.  NaCl exists as Na+ ions and Cl- ions and neither one will hydrolyze (react with water) to make HCl  or NaOH.  Both HCl and NaOH are strong and therefore completely dissociated.

    Sorry Gunjack,

    NaCl + H2O -> NaOH + HCl

    is utterly "bogus".

  3. A solution; Na+ and Cl- ions each surrounded by water molecules and moving around more or less independently.

  4. aqueous solution of NaCl which is also called brine.

        NaCl + H2O -> NaOH + HCl
