A good friend of mine just bought a new boat and I wanted to give him a little something for good luck. Like when you get a new car people throw loose change in it, etc. So any ideas that would work would be helpful. Thanks!

  1. a free session with a shrink

  2. gift certificate to west marine or local boating store

    cup cozies and some beer!

    bumpers

information to get the boat inspected by the coast guard (free but helps limit marine police pullovers)

    windbreaker jacket

waterproof baggies at marine store for paperwork needed on boat (safety course cert, registration, etc)

    waterproof cell phone holder baggie

sign him up for his boater's safety course if he doesn't have it

  3. Just a suggestion but why not buy him some dock bumpers to protect his shinny new boat from the dock.

  4. A good bottle of Scotch.  Really, there's something about that spirit that male boats like.  Cooking freshly caught fish with a bottle of single malt scotch is a great way to spend an evening.

  5. I'm a boat owner for 20 years, I would say:

A paid for "Safe boating class" from the Coast guard is about $50 (1-day class).

A strobe light for the life vest

A V.H.F. marine radio or "Hand held" back up vhf radio

this is a very important piece of equipt. on my boat

  6. The only good luck tradition that works on a new boat is to hoist a pair of bikini bottoms up the flagpole or mast!

There are more thoughtful and practical gifts though.

Find out what he's got already, most people go on a bit of a spending spree when buying a new boat.

    Here are some suggestions.

Marine plates, cups, etc. They are plastic with boating motif on them and have rubber under them to stop sliding around.

Some charts (maps) of his local area. Get them laminated.

If its his 1st boat, a book about boat maintanence and handling aimed at newbies. There are plenty of them out there.

bucket of maintainence stuff. Boatwash, metal polish, upholstery cleaner, sponge, scrubbing brush, wd40, crc or similar.

A basic toolkit. "a boat with no tools is a boat owned by fools"

    Fishing gear.

    A decent pair of binoculars.

A divers knife and sheath. Very handy for cutting rope off propellers!

A good spotlight, see if he has a 12 volt outlet on the dash, if so, get him one that will plug into it.

    A gps. (as mentioned before)

    Waterproof flashlight.

Shop manual for whatever engine he has.

    A grease gun!

I have put suggestions to suit a range of budjets so good luck!

  7. A nice bottle of champagne or even just wine. Really, no one threw money in my car.... humph!

  8. A salior's hat?? A bottle of champagne to christen the boat?? Good luck!!

  9. on of those little keychain floaters.

They really are a life saver, I bet you could even find a site that will customize what it says on it.

  10. a case of rum and a case of dramamine

  11. Pirate Eye Patch. Then he can look at women's b*****s with his "Bad Eye"! Arrrgggg!!! :-p

The hat may be better. ;-)

  12. how about a life jacket

  13. A GPS if he doesn't already have 1.

  14. depends what kind of boat

    if its a yaht--->lobster

if its a piece of c**p-->cigarettes and beer

  15. Get him a Captain's hat- with his First Name sewn on it. He'll think of YOU- every time he puts it on!  :)
