It is my grandsons closing performance as Oliver Twist. He is only 10 years old and doing musicals!

  1. Some people give flowers to boys as well but I find candy works as well. If you want to go one step above that do you have a photo of him in costume? You could present him with a framed photo of himself.

Or think about something related to the role and give him something small that will always make him think of Oliver.

  2. What are some things that he is interested in? If he's into the whole Broadway thing, you could get him tickets with you to your local theater (like one with touring productions of Broadway shows.) Soundtracks to shows. TARGET GIFTCARDS are great so he can chose whatever he wants. Cards with personal messages, not just "I love you" but maybe with a short story. Money in general. Gifts.com has a great personality gift finder quiz that can also help you out.

  3. Flowers are out.

A cactus might be quite funny, but probably not appreciated.

I have quite a collection of thoughtfully inscribed cigarette cases from ladies I acted opposite, each one of which I treasure - and I do actually use. But perhaps not for a 10 year old.

Thinking back to when I was 10, a watch, a torch or a monogrammed wallet would have been wonderful.

Thinking about torches - my cousin's 11 year old covets my pocket Maglite. They are beautifully engineered, and robust, and you can have them engraved. And they are the torch of choice of people who work professionally backstage. Just try Maglite in google for suppliers (and no, I don't work for them).

  4. wow good for him! many boys hate the arts. im proud of him :) (especially if its community theater) get him lots of dance and voice training and he may be the next broadway star:)

  5. No offense but an odd question.

There are no standards, rules, dictated, or expected GIFTS, for anyone in any performance, and certainly NOT always so public as it might be embarrassing, to a 10 year old.

Typical is flowers, even for males, though I suspect a SON might be VERY HAPPY with a HUG from GR'MOM, yikes.

He might even hold out the Gruel bowl asking More please, MUM?

  6. A big hug and lots of encouragement!

+ a wooden spoon with the Title and date.

If he takes the career further, a 'silver' spoon engraved everytime he has a first night! It will remind him of where he started and that you were there for him then and always will be.

  7. What do mean by 'doing musicals'? If you mean he is performing in one then just say well done and give him a hug..What were you thinking of giving him..A scholarship to RADA?
