  1. As a retired Chemical Officer (28 years active and reserve), I can heartily recommend the Chemical Corps if you are of above-average intelligence, have excellent math and science skills, and have been doing some weight-lifting.  Some of the equipment you will have to hump around is pretty darned heavy!

But if you had trouble with math and science in school, then I recommend another career field.

  2. You can get college credits from any military job as long as you're majoring the same field. but i know too many people as 74D and they all hated it... so i suggest you pick something else.

    * I agree wth nina on the bottom.. thats exactly what i've seen in the past 5 years of experience.

  3. Below is a description of the job.  In most posts, you will not be working as a 74d, for instance, in my unit here on Ft. Drum our 74d is mostly working as our company clerk.  In my personal opinion, this is not a very good job (for male or female), especially if you want to get something out of it for after the army.  I would advise you to try to get an Military Intelligence job (35 series) if your asvab score is high enough.  This is the smartest place to go for work that will improve your skills for the outside world.

Major duties. The chemical operations specialist operates, performs operator maintenance or supervises the use of nuclear, biological and chemical detection and decontamination equipment, smoke generators, and assists in the establishment, administration, training and application of NBC defense measures. The nuclear, biological and chemical noncommissioned officer provides training, advice, and supervision regarding the proper use and maintenance procedures for chemical equipment and chemical operations in company and higher level organizations.

  4. It depends on what you want out of the military. But this is not a nice job at all. First of all, the training sucks. Once you get to your unit, most likely you wont be doing your job, you would just be helping somebody else, and this is because there is no real need for you until there is a major threat. Compared to other job, its not that hard to get promoted to SGT but it gets harder to make SSG and almost impossible to make SFC and above. I'd go for 92y which is supply, they have it way better although not easier.
