David Archuleta’s new single, “Crush” will debut this week at #2 on the Billboard Hot 100. That’s according to reliable sources who regularly leak Soundscan numbers online.

“Crush” has set some records:

The highest debut, at #2, on the Hot 100 this year.

The highest debut of all Idol album singles on the Hot 100

The highest position of all Idol album singles (tied with Kelly Clarkson’s “Since U Been Gone) on the Hot 100.

The highest chart position for an Idol, period, since Taylor Hicks coronation single, “Do I Make You Proud” debuted at #1 in 2006.

I’ll bet I’m missing something! At any rate, thanks to the peeps who confirmed these stats for me. And a big congratulations to David Archuleta on his huge chart debut. It’s an incredible accomplishment.
