  1. That would be the absolute WORST type of surfboard for a beginner!

Unless the beginner is a 6 year old, you will never ever be able to get up on this, let alone ride waves.

A beginner needs a board with lots of volume, which means it is buoyant. The more buoyant it is, the less you sink in the water, the less you sink, the faster you can paddle. The faster you paddle, the easier you can catch waves.

Also, a larger board will be more stable, so you will be able to get up on it. A small board will tip you off every time you try to stand, unless it's already lie second nature to you.

    For a beginner I would get a board between 7'6" and 9'1"

If you do decide to go for something shorter, please, no less than 6'10", and then it must have volume! (I'm talking 3" thick and 22" wide)

Trust me on this - I've been through it myself, and seen others go through it too. You'll learn a lot faster and have a lot more fun on a bigger board.

Give your surfing 3 years and then make a decision on the 5'6"

    Have fun!

  2. depends on where you surf.  don't go around any longboard waves.  too frustrating.  good deminsions to learn shortboarding though...
