  1. Virtually all of the cameras have an interpolated mega pixel count, so I would not fault that at all.  There is only one DSLR that does not have interpolated numbers and no one on this venue has ever mentioned it at all.

Much of what is in point and shoot digital cameras is generic.  There will only a few making sensors and anyone can make a case.  I would simply say that if you took that camera apart and took one of each other brand apart, you could quickly find out who made it. One major brand on the market, a bit one, has their point and shoots made by Fuji, so who knows.

  2. I must have reviewed their entire product line by now and without exception their cameras are horrible. They advertise inflated megapixels numbers (they advertise with "interpolated" megapixels and bury the actual number in the small print), they mostly have zero optical zoom (only digital zoom), they don't state who makes the lenses (every decent manufacturer is proud to state where the optics come from), etc.

So don't expect very much from this camera. If you're looking for something decent, spend $30 more and get a Canon/ Nikon/ Sony/ Fujifilm... any name brand will do.

    Hi Bill,

SVP has a nasty habit of advertising 12 megapixels and casually mentioning in the specs that - oh gosh - the sensor only has 5 megapixels. So where did the rest go? The other 7 megapixels are make believe; interpolation is a software trick.

Then add the digital zoom. With 3x digital zoom on a 5MP sensor, you're only getting about 5MP/3= 1.7 megapixel. So in the end you'd get more resolution from a phone camera.

When a name brand camera advertises 12 megapixels, the sensor actually has 12 million photosites. And with 3x optical zoom you still have 12 megapixels.

Of course, nobody actually needs 12MP on a point & shoot. With the tiny sensors and the lenses they use it's overkill. But when a company advertises 12MP and only delivers 2, that's a pretty big deal. SVP fudge their ads in many ways, or neglect to mention important facts, to make it appear that they have a good product when in reality they sell garbage. It's false advertising - no matter where the components come from. The reason I've answered so many questions about SVP cameras myself is because no self respecting review site will touch their products. With just about any other brand I can simply provide a link.

As for your comment that only one dSLR doesn't have interpolated numbers - I'm all ears. Perhaps we can discus it over a beer some day.

    Kind regards,

    Jeff
