I have been using them for years. They have degenerated to mostly racist rants and nonsense. But do you think its a good idea for yahoo to take them away?

  1. why should you question if it is a good idea. Apparently you have already made up your mind that they had degenerated to mostly racist rants and nonsense, so why ask us.

  2. im forgainst the very idea of it

  3. Everything will be fine, its only a temporary shut down. They will return and the trolling will rev right back up.

  4. I absolutely think they should shut down...

I was reading the story about the Mt. Hood climber and went in to the discussion boards and found people acting like idiots!

people were talking about him burning in h**l, or s******g his wife on his coffin...it's horrible to know that this is what the world is coming to!

    check it out.

  5. Absolutely! The filth, obcenity, racism and just plain sickining comments are made daily. The place has become a cesspool. This filth is openly available to children, young people, etc and needed to be shut down if they are not going to be moderated. I think that Yahoo finally had enough complaints that they took some action. I know I have written them a diatribe or two. Now, don't take me wrong, I am NOT endorsing censorship, but these boards have passed the limits of common decency. Look at the comments that are generated by the passing of any noted figure.  It was absolutely revolting that anybody would post such comments for all to read. Yeah, there are some sick people out threre who just love to troll and agitate and in the Yahoo message boards, they found a home. I also think that Yahoo may have realized that they were on very shaky legal ground by providing an unmonitored forum and tacetly allowing this perversion to be posted on their site. There were some good people who would post there trying to  restore a little order to the place, but they were usually stomped on pretty hard. The thugs and foul- fingered folk owned the place. Yeah, I think it is a good idea for Yahoo to clean up their back yard. It certainly has reflected poorly on their organization. It should have been done long ago IMHO.

  6. I compulsively read and post them from time to time, in the vain hope of finding the occasional nugget of insight.  But, unless Yahoo!  chooses to invest more effort to moderate the discussion - and it's at their expense, so it's a business decision - they aren't doing the community any harm by shutting them down.  It's hard to find a bigger source of stupidity anywhere then yahoo news message boards.  If you want more enlightened discussion go to the BBC site - they filter out the worst abusers.

I just found this out - they will reopen the message boards later, in a way that deals with these problems.  So how could you be against that, unless you're a troll???

  7. It was a poor decision.  Whenever a news board would first open, most of the posts would be trolls.  Trolls are not that hard to deal with, and they can be amusing at times.

After the board aged, a group of regulars would start posting and the boards become a good place to socialize and comment upon various issues.   Yes, you had to suffer through the initial surge of trolling, but its not that hard to get over it.
