What do you guys think about this bike and price?

i found an 08 Haro Shift R1 http://www.harobikes.com/mtb/bikes/shift_r1.php#features

for $499 due to some scratches on the frame and fork bike is brand new any input would be appreciated. Thanks.

Sounds like its not new so Id avoid it, consider a Decathlon Rockrider 5.2 new for around half the price

i don't have much knowledge about mountain bikes because i do road bikes, but that seems like an ok deal. i don't know exactly how much it costs brand new. see if u can find a cheaper one somewhere maybe before you buy it. it seems like a pretty good bike to me.

An $800 bike for sale at $500, that definitely reads as a sound deal to get yourself on.  If you didn't find something less expensive to fill your needs by now, the only thing I could suggest is that you go about inspecting the bike frame and fork.  Look for any cracks along the welded joints of the bicycle's frame, and make sure that rear shock is functional.  More likely than not, the rear shock will be your biggest concern, but even in a worst case scenario, you shouldn't need to fork out more than a max amount of $100 to repair the bike, and that would still leave you on top in savings from buying the bike retail new.

So, I'd inspect it for wear and damage, then if I feel that it's a solid bike, buy it right then and there.  Maybe even haggle to get the price down a bit more.  Best of luck to ya, enjoy yourself.
