  1. You want to take drama and get theatrical training so I'm guessing you want to be a stage actress. If that's the case then why go all the way to the states? There is an AMAZING theatre school here in Canada called NTS (National Theatre School) http://www.ent-nts.ca/en/programs/ .

Now you also mentioned filming. If you want to be in films you need to get a different kind of training. Yes, a background in theatre acting will give you the skills to be a better performer in both mediums, but it's like a trained painter now wanting to become a sculptor (some skills transfer but it's a whole different art form).

I'd suggest getting some basic acting training through theatre, and then applying to one of the film schools here (Vancouver Film School, Red Deer College Motion Picture Program, are just a few).

As for a "second" job. If you're worried about not getting much work as an actress than you are a very smart girl who has at least an idea of how unlikely fame, fortune and success is in this industry. You can be the best actor but if you don't have the passion, drive, luck or connections you won't make it.

Try exploring other aspects you love about acting (the script, set, props, lighting, advertising, teaching, etc) and look into getting a major in drama & a minor in something else related.  There are jobs out there, have nothing to do with acting, where you can have your name in the credits or on the program and make money.

  2. Both are gr8 schools but NYU is more famous for their drama programs. As for another job, I would suggest writing or since you love acting, teaching a drama class to younger students so that maybe you could inspire a new star. To start your career, I would start looking for agents now so by the time you graduate you will have enough experience to get a major part in a movie. Don't wait until your an adult, you could even just start getting info now.

  3. There is no such thing as "the best school." Both of these schools have good enough programs. The matter of which one is right for YOU is probably more a matter of which city you'd rather live in. It's generally accepted that LA is the center of movies and TV productions in the western world, while NYC has a thriving live theater scene and a much more cultured environment. Either of these might be right for you.

On the other hand, there are a million other great schools you could get a quality education from, so I hope you're not limiting yourself to these two choices. There's always Oklahoma City University, Indiana University, University of Central Florida, and plenty of other schools with excellent performing arts programs. Some of the big, competitive programs are notorious for burning out promising young hopefuls and scaring them away from the industry when they had great careers ahead of them. If you feel you'll do your best in a situation where you always have to compete with your peers for attention from professors, performance opportunities, etc., then go ahead and aim for a school like NYU or UCLA. If you want a more nurturing environment where you can develop a stronger relationship with your advisors and thus get an education that's more suited to your own individual needs, you should look into other options.

And as for a "second job," when you aren't working at a current gig your job is to look for a new gig.
