I respect and like Sarah alot and hope for the best when she races in Kentucky and Chicago.

If you did not know she was sponsored by dollar general and some other smaller companies associated with dollar general.

I never new that dollar general was that big and had that much money to sponsor something. No offense to anyone but I think this sponsor seems a big cheap or its not big name. I guess Fisher will take what she can get. Hope she will be back next year with more money.

GOOD LUCK SARAH.

  1. I'm glad she got a sponsor!  Hopefully she can raise some money to race next year.  She seems like a very good driver to me.  Good luck to Sarah!

  2. ITS A DOLLAR GENERAL IN EVERY TOWN

h**l we got 4 in this little hellhole i live in

  3. I think it's great. Dollar General is a huge outfit.

In some areas it's where many families go everyday. They have low prices, and the truth is.... most people are NOT rich.

There are also some other very popular names going on her car... I hope she kicks butt in her Dollar General Dallara and that they pick her up for all of next year.....or longer.

    Go Sarah

Add.....Craqattaq brings up a good point.

With a slumping economy, a $5 million sponsorship looks a bit easier to deal with than a $20 million deal for NASCAR.

As the crowds and coverage improves, more big names will start putting their 5 million out there for sure. If the IRL would quit using the ESPN history channel , and ESPN76thousand or whatever those crapy channels are, more sponsors would surely come forward...as it is, only 16 people get to watch some of the races on TV and when that happens, viewers lose interest and find a NASCAR race with only a set of rabbit ears on their TV.

  4. I think its great for her, hope she gets some great finishes so hopefully this will lead to more sponsorships for her. The economy sucks right now, all corporations are cutting back on sponsorships..Dollar General stores are big in the south and mid west, I have not seen many of them out here in Calif, we have Big lots and 99 cent stores every where you know the economy is bad when you see a Ferrari in the Big lots parking lot....But I really hope this works out for Sarah the gal has talent..Come on Sarah you can do it..

    Go Helio

  5. Thats awesome.  I almost cried with her at Indy.  Shhhh..  Don't tell.  Please.

  6. I hope 4 the 4 Sarah. I dont like Danica and I think she is a spolled BRAT but I hope Srah gets back in the game and wins some show up Danica and some other guys racing!!

  7. I think the world of Sarah Fisher, not necessarily as a great driver but as a good person who will hopefully succeed as a car owner.  I wish her all the best.

  8. Absolutely thrilled Sarah will be back in a car at Kentucky and Chicagoland (both races I'm attending).

The sponsorship, Dollar General, works on several different levels.

    1.  Dollar General isn't a small company.  There are several thousand stores throughout the nation.  Yes, it is more of a discount store, but there are places where that's all you have in the small town, and they're still rather competitive with Wal-Mart.

    2.  Here's where things *could* get interesting.  Sarah is also co-sponsored by several of Dollar General's "vendor sponsors", which include known brands such as Clorox, Kraft, Reese's, and Slim Jim, to name a few.  This is a *very similar* situation within the Chip Ganassi team.  Dixon/Wheldon aren't necessarily sponsored by Target, but more or less by their vendor sponsors, which means they come out with various paint schemes (ie, Wheldon's Poloroid, Dixon's Energizer, to name 2 livery schemes).  This will unquestionably open up possible avenues for opportunity to her team.

    3.  Let's admit it.  While Danica steals hearts, Sarah's the true meaning of All-American Girl Next Door.  She's been through the worst of the worst times, and has seen flashes of brilliance.  There's no questioning her ability, and when her car is right, she can be just as racy as anyone.  She belongs in IndyCar, and I think general IndyCar fans are happy to have her.  There's been a big effort within Downforce (the IndyCar Fan club) to e-mail Dollar General to thank them for the sponsorship, and they've been overwhelmed.  It's a great story, and I'm pretty sure they're not going to back down.  Two good showings this year could (should) lead to a full-time sponsorship in '09.

I think you're also starting to see a trend in motorsports marketing.  While it costs $20-25 million to sponsor a NASCAR car (and rising significantly), the cost for an IndyCar is only about $5 million.  Sponsors are starting to come back - that's only good news for IndyCar.  Interest is coming back.  Crowds are coming back.  This is all momentum, and some of these companies (ie, Dollar General, Subway, McDonalds, etc.) are jumping on the bandwagon early, even if it's more of a feeler.  I think if they see the potential interest, the advertising investment they make for '09 and beyond will pay dividends using an untapped market - IndyCar fans.

Just 2-cents with interest.  Besides - I can't WAIT to see the #67 Dollar General livery.  I see a sharp yellow w/ black trim car that'll catch a ton of eyes.

  9. 3 yrs too late ,  if she had that kind of sponsorship  a few yrs ago when she was doing really well and possibly could have won the indy 500 one of those yrs,,,

if that was the case shed be the top woman driver and we would be saying ,,DANICA  who????

but i hope she can regain her form when she was in her late teens,,,,
