What do you guys think of the Ken Griffey Jr. trade to the White Sox?

I have always liked Griffey as a player, but I think the Sox needed pitching more. What do you think?

It was a surprising trade, but I think it will turn out go for the Sox. They basically gave up very little for a future Hall of Famer. Richar was always going to be stuck behind Ramirez at 2nd and Masset just wasn't working out (55 hits in 44 ip and an OBA of +300).

While it's true that Jr. is past his prime, I think he still has alot of production in him. I think he will benefit from playing at the Cell and will get chances to see some good pitches because of Dye, Quentin, Thome.

I am not sure where they are going to put him. I think this trade might have been made because the Sox are starting to lose patience with Konerko and the slump he's been in.

Maybe, they will give Jr. a chance in the center and move Swisher to first. Jr. wouldn't have to play the whole game, but just enough to get two or three at bats. Then, Anderson or Wise will replace him for defensive reasons.

I think this move was made because Williams wants to win now. Unlike others, I think the Sox pitching is good enough to get them through the season, especially after Contreras and Linebrink come back. Besides, the Sox weren't going to get a front line starter with out giving up someone of equal value.

But, with Crede out and with Konerko in a slump, the Sox have a hole in their line up. Perhaps Jr. can help partially fill it.

I think it was a great trade because the sox are built to win now not in the future and I also think it will be a pretty big effect.  First of all nobody else in there division made a trade and got a big name player so that makes the white sox the only one.  Also it will make an impact mainly on offence because he will mainly be replacing Paul Konerko who is batting like .215 with 9 homers and 35 RBI.  And Griffey is batting .245 with 15 homers and 53 RBI.  SO he beats Paul Konerko in every major catagory.  ALso the one thing Griffey is missing is the one World Seris Ring.  So he will be very motivated.  So that is what I think.

I would have been a bigger deal to me 10 years ago when Griffey was the best in the AL.  Now he is ok so its not a big deal.

Sounds like Guillen agrees:

"I'm going to put the best guys I think we have to give us a better chance to win the game," Guillen said. "We brought Junior to play, but if Junior don't play the way we think he should be playing, then we're going to have guys here to replace. We are here to win, and we will see how it works."

Griffey used to be my favorite player back ten years ago man. He was in his prime...should've retired while he was on top!

i think it was the dumbest thing cincy has done ever. losing a iconic star in cincy is like saying  there is no such thing as baseball it just doesnt make sense but this trade will leave cincy scarred forever. the city  of cincinnati has sufferd the reds have suffered the reds baseball wont be the same it wont see a world series in the next 10 years cause the fans came to the game to see griffey and the team win guess they wont see either anymore

I agree.Pitching would have made more sense,but it will be good for Sox as well as Jr.He can finish out his career as DH and add on to his already impressive offensive #'s.He has been one of the all around best players ever.

i think it was a great move. this gives griffey a chance to get the ring.  griffey would be the cf not a DH. which would take the  bat out of nick swisher.  it would make sense if thewhite sox would move swisher to first which takes the bat out of konerko since kernerko has a low batting average. i think i deserve the best answer :)

Williams just traded for Griffey so he can say Griffey played in Chicago. It was all for publicity. Williams didnt get him after seattle and now he finally got his wish.

i think the sox could go either way but griffy is good i think they should have gone for some one younger for pitching or fielding.
