I'm a road biker. I've never owned a mountain bike although I have thought about it..but haven't followed thorough. While at my bike shop I saw this mountain bike..it was on sale for $550 and was hot pink with my name on it! From what I know this is a good brand, but I know nothing of mountain bikes. Is this a good beginner mountain bike? I'm seriously fixing to go for this!

  1. That's a pretty sweet deal. I like the fact that it has Shimano components all around. You may get better shifting by switching to a shimano crank though.

Even though I'm not a girl, I like seeing feminine bikes like this one. Just because you like to ride doesn't mean you can't be a girl.

Keep it in the big ring.

  2. Nice bike, go for it!

...Although Kona also do Road bikes called Lisa as well:

^^ That is a great bike - Ultergra components, FSA cranks and stem and bars and Mavic Ksyrium wheels, yum.

  3. LOL....too perfect.   Yeah, it's a great beginner's bike and that's a very good price on it.  I'd jump on it.   Like literally...jump on it and hit the trails!

It's pretty decently spec'd....nice tires and a great rear derailleur.  You may not like those shifters, but you can switch those later if you want to.  I'm glad to see they gave you a "normal" ISIS crank/bottom bracket, too....sometimes on the entry level bikes companies use a similar "powerspline" version which isn't that great and forces you to look for a special product.   You won't have any problems with any of that on this bike.   Be sure to "burn in" the rotors on the disc brakes so that they'll stop well.

And I'd see if you can smile and use both the hot pink color of the bike and the fact that your name is Lisa to work the salesman into a little discount.  Can't hurt to try.   :o)

Kona is an awesome company....not just the quality of their products, but the company itself.  Even if their bikes weren't so good, I'd almost still consider supporting them just because of all that they do.   I think you could buy this bike and be proud of it on many levels.   Good luck, enjoy it!    :o)

  4. yea konas are sweet, the components are on the entry level side, but i never bought into the real expensive high end components anyway. i say that since your name was on it, its a sign - go for it!

  5. Well, I am not sure about the color, and since I have never heard of the Lisa brand bike, I am unsure.

That price would be beginner level, which is all some of us ride.  I don't care for fancy suspension and all that, solid frame and good components from SRAM is all I need.

    Edit:

Definitely worth the money. Kona is one of my favorite brands (if I was a lady would probably have known they made a bike called Lisa!) Go for it and have fun.

  6. Hi Lisa,

Wow, it is pink and it has your name on it!  That bike was made for you!  Kona makes great bikes with great components.  For $550 I think that is a pretty slick deal.  The bike has a nice fork, Hydraulic brakes and nice components especially since this will be your first mountain bike!

    Go for it Lisa!

  7. Hey! Its a great bike, and you'll LOVE mountain biking!! Its wonderful. But I have a concern that you might not totally agree with me on.

By having a pink bike like that, it instantly announces to any other drivers/cyclists that you are a woman, which is not necessarily safe. Its like the cute college kid with "AMYSCAR" on her liscense plate. Its suggesting that she's probably a cute young woman with personality and just instantly says who she is.

I don't know if your'e able to follow me on this or not, or if you agree. I just prefer to stay disguised a little more to be safer. Like I wear a grey helmet and a little bun, and I have a white bike. Hoep youi understand, God bless!
