One american middle aged man who suffers from aids, dies in the hospital surrounded by doctors, and even though he refused the treatments he was still treated , cuz doctors thought he was suffering from dementia from aids.

Girl in haiti dies without no medical treatments because everyone around her knew that there wasn't any cure for it and decided to keep her home comfortably where she can get a "decent dead" because being in hospital is no better than what they can offfer her. Finally she dies surrounded by her loved ones. how do u guys think their deaths reflect their cultural values?

  1. umm america has no respect for individual wishes and haiti does. if i get aids im dyin in haiti.

  2. It does in fact reflect a great deal about culture. In the US, we value the idea the we can use our human resource to resolve any problems and that we can conquer somethings that we can't. We rely on science but we also lost many aspect of family relations due to our needs for individuality and "independence." In our thoughts, Its the self against everyone else and you do what you have to.

Of course many Caribbeans society are not like that. To them Kinship is very important because quite often that is what they need to survive. Its not a dog versus dog world to them, its a clan versus world. To have died in the comfort on love ones is something they revered.

Neither culture is better then eachother.

  3. Look at the larger picture. Dead = dead.

To say that the first scenario is total in America is to be uninformed. The converse is true about Haiti.
