I am writing a Business Plan, I plan on opening my own Sports Bar in a couple years. What do you guys want in a sports bar? What kind of atmosphere? What kind of foods and drinks available? Things like that, if you had a perfect sports bar, what would make it up?

  1. Stay open late so people can go there after their fave bars close and serve food at diner prices.... why head to the diner when you can get the food at the same price and MORE BEER.

  2. well i think that it should have the normal sports bar stuff 4-5 tv's one big screen and also have a place for people that like that atmosphere but a tv for other things and a quieter place for people to relax.  mostly snack food like a sandwich deli but some cooked food like steak, shrimp and hamburgers.  drinks are hard but you what a large verity some for every class: whiskey shots and mixed whiskey jack and coke, bourbon  and some things for women wine coolers wine and some fruity drinks strawberry daiquiri and such

  3. Most guys look forward to beer, music, and of cousre the game on on some kind of nice tv.Thats all, just have a good staff to keep the men happy!

    Good Luck!

  4. Tables/Seating:

A large bar and plenty of hightops. Have some booths but remember they restrict tv viewing. They are more intimate and are good for couples and close friends. I wouldn't consider having any regular height tables. Reasons... a lot of people like to stand up during a good game and if the place is packed they may have no choice. It's not comfortable to stand next to a normal height table and converse with your buddies and watch the game whereas standing guests can lean on a hightop very comfortably. Also, if you have regular height tables, folks who like to get up and cheer after ever play may block the view of others watching the game. Basically, have all tables the same height as the bar with the exception of the booths... you might want to elevate the booths by about nine inches. Although Outback isn't a sports bar concept... I think they have elevated booths in the bar area. Go to a look at them and you'll know what I'm talking about.

    TV's:

Lots of HDTV's with actual HD signals. Make sure to set the individual tvs to automatically adjust to the aspect ratio of the signal. Don't just set it on 16:9 because non-HD 4:3 pictures will be "flattened." HD is very important... more explained below.

    Lines of Sight:

Lines of sight should allow as many tv's to be viewed as possible from a single place (HD tv's allow for clearer viewing from further distances... scores and such are easier to read). Wide horseshoe bars work well. Tv's can be tucked into the overbar cabinetry, displaying inward for viewing by folks on opposite sides of the horseshoe. Tv's should also be placed in the overbar cabinetry facing out for folks in the hightops and in the booths. Tv's should be located on each wall. Avoid a narrow, long horseshoe bar and don't even consider a linear bar.

    Staff:

Attractive and friendly young women and men for the floor. Use a mix of them at the bar but I would suggest hiring a few good-looking guys who have a lot of sports knowledge to work the bar along with their female counterparts. Hire attractive young women who have sports knowledge when you can. They are a great addition to the bar area if they can tend bar.

    Service:

Simply put... excellent. No one should have to ask for the next drink or food order. The staff has to be proactive and keep on top of who needs a "refill" and never leave a guest waiting for his next beer or drink. "Always a full glass."

    Food:

It needs to be varied from greasy wings to salads. Grilled steaks to 1/2 pound burgers. Seafood to pasta. Bread to onion rings. The menu needs to be respectable and fairly priced. Avoid the "bar food" "fried everything" approach. You'll get a better clientele if you avoid dirt-cheap food.

I have more ideas... just contact me if you like these and want more.

  5. The best sports game on one tv, and the hometown game on the other. With of course great food and a fantastic bar.

  6. Lots of tvs, all the games on, inexpensive beer and good inexpensive "bar" food.  Buffalo, ny has awesome bar food (I'm from there).  They have the best wings, subs, pizza, potato skins, and chicken fingers.  You seriously should go there and do a restaurant/bar tour to check out the food.  The drinks should be inexpensive but not too cheap, so you can keep the hard core drunks out.  Ladies night is good too.  Microbrewery type places and cigar bars are in too.  Maybe you could incoporate that idea into a sports bar theme.  Good luck!
