For some people its the long lines. For some its the cashiers attitude, the price of food, the lack of cleanliness, or sometimes people will hit you with the cart and wont apologize. Ive seen some instances where the parents arent watching what their kids are doing and the kids will go to the salad bar where you can make a small salad, and dig their hands in the food and eat something. Somebody that works at the Grocery store should be standing at the salad bar monitering it.

  1. Honestly I can handle bad attitudes because I know not everyone is nice and polite, I can take being bumped, occasional spoiled brats , the salad bar thing is gross but what annoys me the most are the charity groups that hang out in front of the stores every day asking for donations...

Don't think I am an awful person...I make all my donations thru organizations because to often I have seen the people asking for $ for the hungry and abused carrying their container in  and coming out with a six pack.

  2. I hate the way prices are inflated despite the fact practically everything is from overseas.  Stop and Shop cryogenically stores unripe foods then ships them to the stores, hence a markup for their products.  Stores like the latter make a killing by issuing those discount tags.  They use these tags much like an RFID (radio frequency id tag).  What you shop for most is catagorized and they order their stock based on this nuance.  Basically they maximize profit while minimizing effort.  Some smaller grocery stores stock fresh products at lower prices.  I guess what I hate then is the way big capitalism took over the shopping experience.  It kind of reminds me of ANimatrix and the picture of Sandra Day Oconnor(as an automaton of the Bush administration) holding a delicious red apple that burst into a bomb with the ferocity of a nuclear bomb..  For that matter i hate exploding apples at the supermarket as well.  That is all.

  3. The type of salad bar you describe - where customers can actually touch the food - would not be permitted in a British supermarket.  It would contravene food hygiene regulations.  For all those who criticise the attitude of supermarket cashiers, you should try spending one complete day as a supermarket cashier and see how many unpleasant inconsiderate and downright ungracious customers you have to deal with.

  4. Last week At our HyVee store, they had a big bowl of spinach dip to sample with crackers on the side.. I watch a dirty looking man and women walk over to it.....she grabbed a cracker and dipped into the dip right up to her knuckles.  Then she jammed the whole cracker with tons of dip into her mouth. What a site, she had dip running down her face and took her dip laden hands and wiped them off on her blouse and shorts as she was walking away.  Needless to say I felt sick thinking of the poor soul who would be next to come up and sample it after seeing what just took place.

Lesson to be learned, stay away from the samples.

  5. narrow aisles...

and panhandlers upon exiting the store. we're not rich, and i dont mind buying someone a sandwich, but if that money is going to anything but food or shelter then i dont want to hear the sob story. too often i have offered to purchase a deli sandwich for the person (i refuse to hand out money) and i've been told that a)i dont  like those sandwiches or b) im a vegetarian.(!?!?!?)

...um. pardon me but i always thought the expression was beggars cant be choosers?

i know i sound like a cow but i know from personal experience that you can get out of that type of situation if you work hard enough.

thats what irks me about grocery stores.

  6. i can't turn down the free cookies!!

  7. Definitely when the supermarket is over crowded and the lines are long.

  8. I don't understand why many people leave there freakin carts in the way!!! If everyone would gently move the cart to the side of the aisles... just a little... this will help the customers get in and out of the grocery store better.   And everyone could have a better experience when they go get there food.
