Well, to be good at mechanical engineering, you need to be good at the technical skills, such as math and physics.

However, to be GREAT at mechanical engineering, you need to be good at communication skills, such as writing, speaking and listening.  

Oddly, technical skills can actually take a second tier to that, as long as you have them.
