What do you have to do for swimming tryouts?

I want to know cause it would be my first year and i don't know that many strokes. Help!

Are you talking jr high / high school what level?

Most cases to join a swim team and to be a 1st class swimming is be able to swim 300 yards freestyle.  They will train you on the other 4 strokes.  I was a swim coach and far I was concern as long they can swim 1 lap was good enough to train to get better.

I had tryouts today, so you are in luck!!!

After warming up, everyone trying out had to pick an event to get timed in.  Then we swam that event.  After, we all swam the 50 free for time, and after that, we did a 500 for time.  Then we did relays and stuff, and that was it.
