My kids father wants to adopt my two children thath aren't his,how much does it cost and what do we need to do to get their last names changed?

  1. That is a part of the adoption process.


  2. You need a lawyer for this. Their father has to be informed in order for his rights to be terminated. Then you have to pay for lawyer fees and Court costs, a trip to court for the judge to ask a few questions and tell you guys a few things. Then he is grant you a new birth certificate for your children with your dh's name listed as father. In TN it is about a 1,000$ for everything.

  3. Contact a General/Family attorney, they will have all the info and be able to assist you.

  4. Your children should keep their father's last name because that is their identity.  Your husband has no right to change their last name. They'll just grow up confused. You would need to ask the father to terminate his rights and then go to court. But if the father is in his kids life I doubt he'd sign his rights over.
