Question:

What do you have to go through to start your own business?

Right now I'm only a senior in high school and have a long way to go for anything. But having my own business, such as a pet store that specializes in supplies and perhaps reptiles and small animals, crossed my mind a few years ago.

But starting something like that seems like such a difficult thing.

There is obviously more than finding a building and stocking up!

So what I would like to know is what people have to go through to run a successful business, such as how do you go about starting, paying and hiring employees, etc. Any little information helps.

  1. You are off to a good start. May I suggest a Small Business Development Commission. You should be able to find them near where you live. These can be located at a college or, in the yellow pages. A college is probably your best bet.

    Good luck and best wishes!!!

  2. buy a website

  3. Bottom line.....Write a viable Business Plan. There are plenty of books on the subject of Business Plans in the library.  If you create a good Business Plan it will answer all your questions.

  4. Well you are of to a good start with your name Dreamer, that is the first most important thing, you must have a Dream of what you want to achieve, and that dream must be huge as it is going to have to drive you to success. Having the final goal is paramount, then you will have to decide what path is going to get you to your goal.

You are still at High School, where no doubt you have been taught to get a good education pass exams and get a job (Just Over Broke). However you realise that that is not the best way forward, the trouble is most new businesses fail in their first few years, usually because the owner has not realised how much finance is required to get the business up and running and then to keep it running until the cash generated meets and exceeds expenditure.

What I would suggest initially is to take a look at a network marketing business, where the initial financial outlay is small and where you can get all the help you need to become successful, if you become successful with this business, you will learn several lessons, usually by making mistakes, but here the mistakes will not bring your business down.

Once you have been successful in this field then you should have created the income stream which will allow you to venture into a traditional business if you still want to.

It is just a great pity that running a business is not taught properly in school.

Lastly never lose your dream and don't worry if at first you cannot see any way of fulfilling it, if your dream is strong enough a way will be found.
