  1. What a great way to start out! My advice- contact the best university's music department in your area and have a lesson with the guitar professor or a very good grad student or even a college student. If you want to be a music major, you might as well find out what it takes to become one. The funny thing about all the reading- I've been playing for over 20 years and the only thing that I think about after all my education is performing. BUT if you intend on being an education music major then you definitely should get a head start so when you go to college to study music, you will be able to focus more on your instrument and not have the stress of learning new info.

  2. A great way to start is reading the lessons on ultimate guitar.com, and reading the "Musicians Talk" forum, great stuff in there, esp. the stickied thread called Music Theory. But check out the lessons on the site, good stuff
