What do you have to say about cheerleading?!?!

heyy im a All-Star cheerleader and i get ALL the time "cheering isnt a sport!" we train just like athleats and how many baseball players do you know that can do a layout? you have to be in good condition to cheer. i just want to know why does everyone look down on the sport cheerleading?..plus say its only for girls..NOT TRUE,i know PLEANTY of guys that cheer and are much better tumblers than most of the girls,im posting this because i just had a fight with my 17 year old brother on how he thinks cheerings not a sport and i really want to proove him wrong...thnxx(:

Sport's mostly about competition; I don't see competition in cheerleading... are there any cheerleading championships?

If there are, then it's a sport. If not, then it's not a sport.

I think cheerleading is a amazing sport that not only needs spirit, but it also need good skills and sportmanship. I mean, come on! Can your brother do cartwheels, basket tosses or whatever? You need more than just that, you need to be active and you have to depend on your team! Believe me, I saw cheerleaders during practice and they sweat like crazy! It's just the same as any other sport!

its a mix between gymnastics and dance with some cheering in it.  its harder than most sports.  gymnastics is a sport.  dance is a sport.  something made out of both of those should definatly be a sport.

sorry but your brothers CORRECT, cheering isnt a sport.. and as far as baseball players doing a layout, let me ask how many cheerleaders can go into a boxing ring and "layout" mike tyson, OR how many can step to the plate and hit a 90mph fast ball out of the park,OR intercept a pass and run it 60 yards back for a touchdown....seeing the point? Just because a baseball player doesnt do what you do that doesnt mean what you do is a SPORT...sorry sunshine.

My opinion is that I have all the respect in the world for competition cheerleaders. They have mad skillz, and are in awesome shape

On the other hand, I don't really think that high school cheer is a sport, the girls who stand on the end of the field saying GO TEAM!

unless they are doing stunts and tumbling.

But overall, cheering is a sport

my fiance was an all star cheerleader when we got together. I thought it was cute cause its such a girly thing but it amazed me to see her whipping around 50lb bags of potatoes up and down stairs at the restaurant we worked at. She said it was due to cheerleading and that in it self always impressed me and everyone else at work. Unfortunatly when people think of cheerleading as a sport or not they compare it to the sports that you guys tend to be cheerleading for which doesn't really make sense. If you ask me I would say that cheerleading is a type of dance/gymnastics and that is respectable enough cause that stuff is in the Olympics. Your never going to convince your brother but that shouldn't bother you.

There are a lot of activities that get require stamina and conditioning and could be considered a sport, but aren't and should. Activities such as cheering should definitely be considered, as well as marching band, especially when some of those kids wear a wool suit and have to march in 100 degree weather, while some carry a 50 lb instrument and keep it up for 3 hours. If these 2 are not sports, then define the meaning.

ive cheered for 3 years and cheerleading IS a sport.

we put alot of effort and hard work into it.

and yes hanah there are cheering competitions. its like bring it on
