How could this pretense take you?

You think of the past last.

Is the jury mast working?

How could you not sense this?

Deliberate defense is yours

Did you not think?This ship will sink?

The guy is in court and he is just about to find out his fate. He knows that hes going to be found guilty because it is so obvious and he is contemplating how on earth he thought he would ever get away with doing something so obvious and with such a silly defence.
