I just lived in Barcelona for one year and I would recommend avoiding the months July and August because that is when it gets too hot there. It's the reason a lot of businesses close down for 2 months with many residents goign to the mountains for a few months to cooler air.

The best time is either spring or autumn when the temperatures are good, everything is open and ALSO you get cheaper fares and avoid the queues from yoru departure place. Specific months I recommend are May, June and September.

I´d go anytime between June and mid October. I know Barcelona is a fantsstic wondrous city. I went there to see the monastery at Montserratt which is about 50 kilometres north of the city. It was an awesome experience which I highly recommend to anyone visiting Barcelona.
