What do you know about DVR?

I want to buy a DVR to record over-the-air broadcasts of my favorite shows. What I'm considering would be a direct replacement of my VCR, but using a hard-drive or CD-R instead of a tape. Is this possible?

  1. I'm not sure if you can get a DVR just for over the air broadcasts. Usually they are part of your cable/satellite package. You could always get TiVo, but I don't know if that works with over the air.

If you have the right equipment you could do this with your computer, but it's not as simple as just s******g in the connections.

DVD players that will record can sometimes be used as a DVR but you have to spend money on disks because one disk will only hold a couple hours.

  2. dvr utilize a hard drive for storage, plus many have the abiltity to pause programming and reverse rewind. I highly recommend you check out different models before buying. A definite upgrade over vcr

  3. Yes they are available

  4. You won't be using a CD-R as it has only 740 MB and your standard DVR hard drive is 40 - 80 GB.  I have TiVo and really, really like it.  Ensure you know, though, that it's a monthly subscription.
