  1. Your descendants come from there?  How did they get there?  Did you send your children?

Your descendants are those who come after you.

Lithuania is a country in the Baltic, along with Estonia and Latvia.

Capital, Vilnius.  Part of the Soviet Union until the 1990s.  That's where Napoleon and his men ran into such awful weather that something like half his army died there, on the way to Moscow, leading to a complete and utter defeat in Moscow.

  2. never been there but here is some info, dug up by those creeps at the CIA

  3. Lithuania is awesome

If you learn about Lithuania's history, there is much to be proud of and much to be sad about.

I.E. we were the first USSR country to declare our independence from the Soviet Union but we have the highest suicide rate in the world.

Lithuania at the moment is still really down to earth and kinda old fashioned.  Even while sky scrapers are sprouting up and the economy is booming, the country stays lax, and mainly agricultural.

Find out when your ancestors came here.  If you know the dates it is very easy to know why they came because there are about 5 very distinct waves of emigration from Lithuania.

Lithuanian is often called a hidden gem of Europe to visit.  It is still full of forests and meadows and it has some great cultural sites.  It has the hill of crosses which is an amazing site to visit.  It has the "kursiu marios" or coronian spit which has some of the highest dunes on earth.  There's good Lithuanian food everywhere and a feeling of home.  That's the best way I can explain it.  Even though there are the still some of the  usual city dangers and such I feel so at home in Lithuanian that I walk freely everywhere.  It's probably mainly the fact that it isn't so big.

Partying in Lithuania is also a blast.  Vilnius, the capital, is full of bars n clubs and I have often found myself going from one to the other till 4 in the morning and then walking home as the sun comes up.

Being a Lithuanian in America doesn't necessarily mean that much unless you are a Lithuanian speaker and an active part of the community.  I love that I am able to be part of the Lithuanian community in the US.  It gives me connections all across the country, because the community is at such a percfect size that it involves thousands but makes u feel close to everyone in it.

If you don't speak Lithuanian you can one day send your kids to lithuanian saturday school which is available in some cities.  There is also an amazing camp in Michigan (Camp Dainava) which has different camps all summer... one of which is called Heritage Camp and is a great one focused on Lithuanians who don't know the language.

There are Lithuanian Song and Dance Festivals quite often in the US.  I just took part of a Dance Festival in Los Angeles and it was unbelievable.  Song, dance and art are very big parts of the culture which are still alive and authentic today.

So anyway.... I could keep talking on and on about Lithuania because it is such a big part of my life even though I don't even live there.

It's a very unique place to be part of so you should be proud.  And, as I've probably made obvious, all Lithuanians feel alot of Nationalism for their country and culture.
