Saigon was once known as the "Pearl of the Far East", and the former capital of the former Vietnam Republic ( a.k.a. South Vietnam)

Vietnam has the best ethnic food there is, among which, Pho, Hu tieu, Mien, Cha gio & Banh cuon are popular to those who're familiar w/ Vietnamese food.

  3. such a beautiful place, the people in Vietnam are great. I loved every minute of travelling through Vietnam. The lake in the old quarter of Hanoi was magnificent, the temple of literature.

The forbidden fortress in Hue. My son ruins, Tu Duc's tomb. The war remnants museum in Saigon HCM, Cat Cat villagers in Sapa, Markets in mytho, mekong. Fish sauce Mui Ne, old charm of Hoian.

I know that Vietnam is a truly remarkable place.

  4. it is cheap to travel there. They want tourism. I have a friend from Laos and would love to go with him sometime. Someone that knows the ropes. Yea

  6. It has a tropical climate.

It is a third world country.

Cultures to learn and new food to be discovered.

In its country side, it is very relaxed and peaceful.

  7. I liked Vietnam. I travelled around there for a month.

The people are very friendly and always willing to help you out.

They address the ladies as "Miss".

Accommodation and food is very very cheap.

    Lots of tourists.

Crossing the street is an experience!

    The ice coffee is DELICIOUS!

You can get clothes hand made and customed to fit your body at VERY cheap prices (I had mine done in Hoi An. It took 14 hours for 3 suits, 2 bikinis, 3 pairs of shoes, 2 shirts and 1 dress). Altogther it was $170 and it was all made to fit my body, including the knee high boots (great for if you always try to find 'sock' boots to fit your calves).

  8. It is one of the most charming countries in Asia , actually in the world.  Hanoi is a city of lakes and winding streets with facinating shops and shopkeepeers who speak English. Local hotels are cheap and so is the food.  The people are friendly and the women the most beautiful anywhere.

Other parts are intrguing. Sappa near the Chinese borders has people who dress in colorful costumes and speak a language neither Chinese or Vietnamese.  Hue, the ancient capital is a world class attraction and the road trip from Hue to Danang has breathtaking views of the sea as you cross through the mountain paths.

The Vietnamese are incedibly persistent and determined. They have batttled China on and off for 2000 years. They defeated the their colonial masters - The French -in 1954 at Dien Bien Phu (worth a visit to Vietnam just to see this battle site )and of course they  defeated the U.S.  Ho Chi Minh like to say they won without losing a single plane or tank (They did not have any ; the other side did)

I visited first in 1994 at which time no one spoke English and now it seems everyone under 30 speaks English.  By the way 70% of the people are under thirty and for them the Vietnam War is ancient history.  In a university poll in 2002  when students were asked to name three people they admired most they chose 1)Ho Chi Minh  2) Gen Giap (who won both wars ) and --are you ready for this -- 3) Bill Clinton

  9. i know a few things, one thing i find very special is the vietnamese refer to eachother in terms of family members, they seldom say "YOU" or "ME" it is always "FRIEND" or "BROTHER" or "SISTER" or "AUNT&"UNCLE"  its like the whole country is one family. they are very kind to eachother [ usualy] and to strangers. and polite to everyone , even people they dont like. i know a lot of cool things about viet nam, but the people are the best.

  10. i love it! its my culture!
