  1. <<<What do you know about about U.S dollar bills serial numbers?>>>

A fair amount. Too much to include it all in a single answer. I will mention a few points.

The use of serial numbers goes back to colonial times, when serial number were handwritten.

If the serial number contains a star it means the bill is a replacement for a bill that was not issuable when originally produced.

On modern bills, the first letter before the first numeric digit of the serial number indicates the a Federal Reserve district:

    A - District 1 - Boston

    B - District 2 - New York

    C - District 3 - Philadelphia

    D - District 4 - Cleveland

    E - District 5 - Richmond

    F - District 6 - Atlanta

    G - District 7 - Chicago

    H - District 8 - St. Louis

    I - District 9 - Minneapolis

    J - District 10 - Kansas City

    K - District 11 - Dallas

    L - District 12 - San Francisco

Serial numbers including a star make the bill more valuable to a collector.

In some cases the value of a bill varies depending upon which Federal Reserve district issued the bill.

Some collectors prefer bills with low serial numbers. That makes those bills more valuable.

Some collectors prefer bills with a pattern in the numeric posrtion digits of the serial number, such as 12344321 or 22224444. That makes those bill more valuable.
