Question:

What do you know about angora goats?

I was thinking about getting an angora goat for a pet. We have an indoor pen that's about 8 X 14 feet, and a separate outdoor pen roughly the same size. Would that be enough room for one goat? Also, what is their personality like? Are they friendly? What do they eat? Do they require a lot of grooming because of their long hair?

  1. As someone else said, it's cruel to have just one goat unless it has a friend of another species and best to have at least 2 angoras.

8x14 is large enough for two goats as a shelter but you need more outside room.  The angora's personality is much more sheep like than goat like.  They are quiet, usually, and placid and don't have tons of personality.  They aren't usually wild but aren't actually very friendly, not like a dairy goat or a pygmy.  They eat hay which gets into their coat and makes a mess.  They do need to be sheared at least once a year and there is very little call for the fleece after their yearling year.  I guess you could groom them though it'd be a big job.

  2. neva heard of it

  3. It's really too small of a pen for a goat.  Perhaps if it was an inside stall for just nights it would be fine but they need more room than that overall.

Also, goats are herd animals.   They don't want to live alone so you really need to keep at least two.

I do not know much about Angoras as we have dairy goats but your angora will need to be sheared twice a year.
