Specifically, I'm curious about what they do, what kind of education is needed, and how to become a diplomat.

  1. go to www.state.gov see careers there it explains it all.

  2. I think the average individual probably has more on the ball than these clowns. They haven't been worth anything since World War One.

  3. my parents are diplomats and i got diplomatic passport...depends on the country where you come from..some countries are strict about the level of the education needed..its usually law, international relations, business and management degrees..in some 3rd world countries you can have major in geography or arts and still be a diplomat. to become a diplomat you would need to work withing presidential circles, ministry of foreign affairs..i.e. state department if you are in the USA or foreign office in UK. you can work in number of ministries in your country, but not all of them give their employees diplomatic status. there are different departments you can work in the ministry or you can work in an embassy based in another country. your role can vary from 1st secretary to the ambassador. you get to travel, but all in all its a very stressful job. lots of meetings, reports to be written..etc
