Not a thing, but my guess would be that these are folks who marry secretly, but to everybody else they are engaged, so that they can have that big slapdash wedding she always dreamed about.

Being engaged means you will marry someone you proposed to or they proposed to you. You are engaged after a proposal up to the time you have the wedding ceremony.

An arranged marriage is something that is usually done as a custom or religious belief of a family. The parents of both families usually agree their respective children will marry in the future. This passes the whole dating and falling in love process. Normally an arranged marriage is decided when the children are pretty young. Not something I would ever want to happen to me.
