I found a bottle of Naproxen that my doctor gave me last year, but I have no idea what it was for. How would you compare this drug to percocet or vicoden?

  1. Naproxen is available in lower doses at any pharmacy by the name of Alieve. Its an NSAID, like advil, and is non narcotic and will provide no euphoric feeling of any sort

  2. Naproxen is an anti-inflammatory...Non-Narcotic Pain Reliever...Vicodan and Percocet are Narcotic..

  3. Naproxen is Non-Steroidal anti-Inflammotary drug, used for the releive moderate to sever pain, fever, inflammation and stiffness caused by conditions such as osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, gout, ankylosing spondylitis, injury (like fractures), menstrual cramps, tendinitis, bursitis, and the treatment of primary dysmenorrhea.

It works by inhibiting both the COX-1 and COX-2 enzymes.

Naproxen and naproxen sodium are marketed under various trade names including: Aleve, Anaprox, Miranax, Naprogesic, Naprosyn, Naprelan, Synflex.

Naproxen is a member of the 2-arylpropionic acid (profen) family of NSAIDs. It is an odorless, white to off-white crystalline substance. It is lipid-soluble and practically insoluble in water. It has a melting point of 153 °C.

The National Institutes of Health prematurely terminated a randomized clinical trial of naproxen and celecoxib for prevention of Alzheimer's disease, after preliminary data suggested an increased risk of major cardiovascular events, such as heart attack or stroke, in patients taking naproxen. However, recent meta-analyses which took into account all data from significant clinical trials of naproxen, including randomized clinical trials and observational trials concluded that naproxen carries no increased risk of heart attack or stroke at any commonly used dose.

Vicoden/Percocet = Oxycodone = opioid analgesic medication synthesized from thebaine. DRUG SUBJECT TO ABUSE.

  4. Naproxen is in a group of drugs called nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). It works by reducing hormones that cause inflammation and pain in the body and therefore is used to treat pain or inflammation caused by conditions such as arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, tendinitis, bursitis, gout, or menstrual cramps.

Percocet has acetaminophen and oxycodone, and Vicoden has acetaminophen and hydrocodone. Hydrocodone and oxycodone are narcotics and acetaminophen is an analgesic/antipyretic. These work differently to naproxen in relieving pain.
