  1. The best 6 cylinder car in the world.

Porsche is leader in turbocharging technology and boxer engine technology.

The 911 Turbo is All Wheel Drive.

    480HP twin turbo Flat-6 engine.

    4 seats.

Reliable, as fast as Ferrari and Lamborghini's, but at a cheaper price.

Aerodynamic and comfortable. More trunk space than Ferrari or Lamdborghini's.

Brakes last forever and are made out of carbon fiber.

    0-60mph in 3.6 seconds.

    Top Speed is 193mph.

It is like a vacuum cleaner. The air that goes in the car is more dirty than the air coming out of the car through the exhaust. Very environmentally friendly.

Gets up to 25mpg highway. That is the best gas mileage for an engine with more than 400HP.

  2. The newer ones are very complex and have things that most people would never think of trying or implementing.

The 2000 to 2005 996TT uses the Air Conditioning System's Freon to cool the fuel prior to being injected into the head. I believe this is done to make the fuel as dense as possible to make horsepower. Colder denser fuel has more energy units or BTU's in a given quantity. More BTU's in the cylinder means more potential horsepower.

  3. I got a bit tired of reading some of these, so for what it's worth, here's the 411 from a middle-aged man who has owned several Porsches.

C7 sounds like a young man who reads lots of car magazines and wants to someday own a Porsche.  No offense, I admire your enthusiasm.

(I must say that I wish you'd have been a bit more specific in your question, but)

The turbo came out before 1978....77 was the year they went from a 2.7 engine to a 1978 3.0, and wow, what a difference.  This is not the turbo.  The turbo had a lag I didn't care for, and if it kicked in while racing canyons and you were at a curve, the boost took the rear of the car around and you didn't want to be on Mulholland Drive at that point.  Still, love the turbos.  The engine is unbelievable, six heads (if you can imagine) and in CA. they designed their models so the cat. converter did not interfere with performance.  You could lug it in freeway traffic all day and not hurt the beast.  That said, you could zip to Lake Tahoe or Las Vegas at a steady 150 mph and the engine simply hummed.  Maintinance was easy really, they are bullet proof as long as you gave them a good valve adjustment every 15,000 miles.  I am a firm believer in the best tires for a high-performance car; I used Pirelli's.  Used the best oil and changed it accordingly.

Lastly, when you finally get your first Porsche, you'll notice that the car almost drives itself, it's balanced so well.  It's like an extension of you, just point it where you want to go.

I traded my brother-in-law cars for a day and regretted it, his Ferrari was like driving a truck (and I love the (Ferrat') compared to my SC.

  4. It is an automobile, it is made out of metal, it is made in Germany, it has four wheels, it costs a lot of money, etc.

  5. The 911 Turbo was started in 1978, 14 years after the first 911 came into production. The first Turbo engine was conceived by Professor Ernst Fuhrmann, who restructured the company. What made the Turbo so different to the Carreras was it was Turbocharged (get the name now?) and had an intercooler. The engines were much cooler and Turbo-lag wasn't a problem. To deal with the extra power, Porsche make the rear wheels wider. They also got the signature "Whale Tale". These were super cars back in their day. Porsche started working on the Turbo in 1973 and produced a racer that had 500 horsepower.

The Turbo evolved over the years, going from a 3 Liter to 3.3, then 3.6, and finally made the transition to a water cooling where they are now 3.8.

These were much different from the old 911s, since they lose much of their history with a more modern body and major increase in power.

The first Turbo originally produced 260bhp from a single turbo and went 160 mph. The new 997 Turbos have twin turbos producing 480bhp and go 193 mph (They also have virtually no turbo-lag). In addition, the first Turbos were all rear wheel drive and were tough to drive at their limits, meaning you needed some experience with these to control them. Thanks to new technology, the 997 Turbo has all-wheel-drive and is very practical, making it one of the only supercars you can drive every day.

  6. Wow C7S!  Which year are you referring to?  Great numbers.  I don't own a 911 but I do own a 944 Turbo.  C7S is correct - Porsche is the top of the line when it comes to performance at a great price.
