I learned from my friend that his ancestors immigrated from the isle of man. The reason why the came to America was because his great-great grandfather knocked up a black maid. He was then exiled out of the country for doing such. What did you learn about your ancestors? Where did they come from? Why did they come to America?

I learned that I'm mostly Scandinavian and German and my grandma's maiden name is so uncommon that all of the people in the U.S. who have the name are related.

P.S. being that he knocked up a maid and is from the isle of man does that make him manley?

  1. they came from france and ireland...they are dead...

  2. Paternal line: mostly Agricultural Labourers (plus quite a few beerhouse keepers)

Maternal line: Either Fishermen, coal miners or blacksmiths

No-one in my family ever amounted to anything. :-(

And no-one ever went to America.  They all had the good sense to stay here in England.   Please don't assume that everyone on this board is from the US of A.  We're not.  English questions can be viewed by anyone, regardless of where in the world they happen to be.

  3. Mine sailed w/ Columbus on the Pinta. He was the crowsman and HE discovered North America, not that dumbass. (He got soooo pissed, he went 2 Africa & converted 2 Islam)

    This is 100% true.

  4. All that I know about my ancestors is that they lived in a cave and wore bear skins .

  5. Don't know why mine came to the US, but they have been here since the 1600's.  Some came in at the request of the English government to establish the Colonies, others, don't know for sure.  Have found some links to famous people.  George Washington's Aunt is in my direct line, have found possible links to Robert E. Lee that are unconfirmed yet.  Confirmed one link to Grover Cleveland.

I have found out that a few generations back, a gg-uncle caught his wife cheating & drove a stake through her heart.  The man she was cheating with was never seen again.  Noone admitted what happened to him.

  6. Well, I know that my great-granddad was from Italy, took his wife with him to the U.S. in the early 1900's and that's how my family made it to America.
