Do you think that it affects expectations of women and changes our behavior? Is it abuse and degradation of women, or just fantasy and amusement? Should it be allowed?

  1. Pornography is completely destructive to women--primarily because it creates unrealistic and harmful expectations of what a women's role is in a relationship. Generations of boys and girls who are being exposed to this propaganda are going to be seeking out something that doesn't exist.

Ultimately, that leads to a destabilization of the family and society.

As far as societies that allow p**n, a lot of those same societies have low ages of consent and legal prostitution, both of which are also abusive.

  2. It depends, really. Studies have proven than areas where p**n is legal / easy to get, the rates for s*x crimes are signifigantly lower, so that is a positive aspect, I believe. I don't mind pornography that much, really... It's fantasy, like a video game. I mean, I play Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney but that doesn't mean I'm going to go out and be a lawyer (at least not at this age)... I play Grand Theft Auto but that doesn't mean I'm going to be a criminal -- no! It's a game, something for someone to experience... if put into context, it can even be said that seeing what happens prevents people from acting out what they see. I, personally, was exposed to p**n early... I, personally, see no issue with it as long as we can keep it away from children. Simply put, p**n is harmless; it can even be considered a positive thing. Not to mention, pornographers have a right to make what they please, and you shouldn't hate the industry, hate the women and men who act in it. Honestly, those are the people who are acting as advocates in it.

It's just fantasy in my oppinion. Then again, I am more masculine that most women...

  3. g*y p**n rocks!

  4. It's abuse and degradation, Lesley.  Men seem to find that amusing however.  Pornography reduces women to nothing more than our genitalia, and that makes us 'less than' a man.  This will never change.

  5. I would like to point out whilst some women find it degrading and completely wrong by those assertions aren't you degrading and wronging the womans right to choose after all most of male orientated p**n includes at least one woman that have made their choice.

  6. I shouldn't answer as I'm not a lady, but something you ought to understand: men know p**n is just fantasy, tuned to exploit their male desires. They know the women in it are only acting a part, one that most women wouldn't do for real. When it comes to selecting a partner in real life, they're looking for something different.

It's a bit like playing a computer game: the things you do in the game are just fantasy, you know that but you still enjoy it. It doesn't mean to say you'd want to do them in real life.

In today's civilised society, we men have many suppressed primitive desires, as we're not able to go out mammoth hunting or raiding the next tribe for kicks. (Yes, underneath it all we're savages. But we can't help it.) So we fantasize about things instead, and p**n is one of those fantasies. Grand Theft Auto is another. So is football. Don't get too serious about it, it's just a bit of fun.

Of course there are exceptions, as with everything.

  7. I have no problem in principle with the function p**n performs - with the idea of providing erotic fantasies to arouse people.  The real problem I have is that it’s made in a way that degrades women.

A lot of p**n depicts women as ‘bitches’ or ‘whores’.  It portrays women as victims, or naïve fools, or vulnerable, or otherwise subjugated.

And the women are so obviously faking arousal and o****m that it’s not remotely exciting to me.

I would prefer to see p**n in which women are depicted as genuinely and freely enjoying their sexuality, and in which the actresses are genuinely enjoying their work.  I would like to see p**n in which women are given roles with more scope and more variety.  I just want it to be better!  Oh, and better production values would be a good thing too.
