What do you learn if you study gastroenterology in med school?

I'm not going to college for a few years, but I'm interested in this field of study because it's about guts and I like guts.

  1. Do what I did with my interest in Microbiology (2 more years until University): Find a University near you and see if they offer courses in that field. You can view what classes you will take in that program. It will show you the name and what you will learn.


  2. Gastroenterology is the field of internal medicine that studies the different disease of the GI (gastrointestinal) system (which includes the liver, pancreas, gallblader, stomach, esophagus, large and small intestines, & r****m).  It is one of the organ systems you will study in medical school.

    If you want to become a gastroenterologist, you first have to complete your training in internal medicine (3 years after medical school) then apply for a gastroenterology fellowship.
