I just did it and here is what I saw... some surprising me too...

..Australia is about the size of the continental U.S.

..Japan looks like a sea horse.

..South Africa is just one small country at the south tip of Africa.

..The South Pacific has lots of islands (wish I owned one)

..China has lots of mountains.

..Greenland looks 20X bigger than Iceland.

..Antarctica on the south pole is a big land mass, and the north pole is small and barely visible.

What do you see????

  1. There is a lot to learn

Is Hawaii there just as a reminder to the rest of the world we could turn just about any land mass in to the 51st State if we WANTED to?

How little green there is in the world ... try to imagine how fast it's going away.

The "new Ocean" - I believe it's called the South Ocean or something - why isn't it called the "Antarctic Ocean" - as Susan mentioned, the south pole is more significant in size than the north pole, doesn't it deserve to have an Ocean named with/for it ?

    Russia is too big.

If we could stretch out the cables that crossed the Atlantic Ocean, carrying the first inter-continent radio and TV broadcasts - how long would they be?  Did they lay on the bottom - if not, how deep were/are they?

    How much coral is left?

When will Google get off their lazy azzes and make Google Earth 'REAL TIME' !!!?!!!!!!!

  2. When i did it i was able to remember position of 80% of countries of Africa continent .& N America

  3. the earth is round not flat!

  4. I love looking at a globe! There is so much that can be learned from it.

What fascinates me every time is the shape of the continents and islands and how they would fit almost perfectly next to each other if they were attached to each other (the way they apparently used to be, before they moved apart due to platonic movements). Look at how the shape of the east coast of America fits with the shape of the west coast of Africa and Europe. Look at how Madagascar would fit next to Mozambique. I could go on and on. It's very interesting.

Funny, I hadn't noticed that Japan looks like a sea horse. Thank you for bringing that to my attention. :)
