What do you like about auto racing?

I relocated to Indianapolis, but I was never really into auto racing when I was younger. Don't get me wrong - I love driving *my* car fast. But I tried watching a bit of the 500, and it didn't really do anything for me. I figure I should give it more of a chance, though. So...what really draws you to this sport, as a spectator?

  1. absolutly nothing...most boring sport...id rather watch golf.....go to a baseball game or something instead.

  2. Everything is cool about auto racing.

  3. watching the brake lights light up is fun and watching the cars shoot around the track plus seeing the different stlyes of racing each racer brings to the track  because every racer does not take a corner the same way.

  4. I feel you man. I live in a baseball town. Now, when your team has been around for about 125 years or so, and your team used to be granted the very first game of the season (not anymore, though), and the people always reminisce about the Big Red Machine, it's tough. So auto racing is usually punted to the back of sports coverage. Except when the Nationwide Series rolls into town.. woo.. what a rush! I'm a baseball lover, but really I'd go with NASCAR any day. What do I love about it? The thrill, the speed, the excitement! I hate when people say, "Rubbin' isn't racing'..." Yeah it is! It's part of the competition. Nudge your fellow driver a bit! Teams have to use strategy, drivers need quick reflexes and good judgment, and not to mention the true heroes I call pit crew members. Without their skill, drivers are toast. The IndyCar Series is a good series to watch.. but NASCAR is just a smidge better lol.

  5. I like watching a driver drive his car on the edge, lose control for a second and regain control of his car, usually at a high rate of speed. I also like the art of setting up a pass, sometimes it takes 3-4 laps, but well worth it.

  6. you would change your opinion if you went to a race. To see it in person is everything compared to watching it on tv

  7. What I like about it is the speed and the strategy.  Each driver has a different style of driving, so to see all the different styles put together into one race is really fun to watch.  Also IndyCars go very fast.  I'm pretty sure the fastest track of the season is the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.  Qualifying speeds at Indy top out at about 227 mph.  The strategy is also a big part of racing.  Crews have to decide when to bring their drivers in for fuel and/ or tires, and they are constantly watch telemetry to show them what speed the car is going, how much throttle/brake they are using etc.  Spotters are watching to see what their driver is doing and what the other cars on the track are doing, so that they can find the best chances for a car to pass.  I think its a very fun sport to watch and, you may or may not enjoy it, but I'm sure that if you watched a few races, you could become a fan.
