What do you like about dragon flies?

Dragonflies. It's one word to differentiate them from true flies, just like Ladybug is one word to differentiate them from true bugs (though some just prefer to call them Lady Beetles). I like them because they eat mosquitos, they're amazing flyers able to do things that even the most advanced airplanes can't do, I like the way they look and the various colors and patterns they come in, they have interesting (and somewhat violent) mating habits, their young are particularly strange with a sort of extendable "arm mouth" that they shoot out to catch fish and other aquatic insects, they're difficult to catch so successfully capturing one is a good feeling, they've been around longer than the majority of other animals and they're still thriving so obviously they're doing something right... there are lots of reasons I like dragonflies :)

they are like a flash back in time.  they haven't changed that much since prehistoric times.  When I see them around an area that has ferns, I feel like I'm in the Jurassic period.

Omg! They are wonderful creatures. The way their wings are see-through is fascinating, and the wide variety of colors are the different species use is amazing. They fly so majestically and when they stand still the moment is so priceless. To top it all off they eat one of the most annoying animals, mosquitoes. By far they are my favorite insect. They have been around since the dinosaurs too which means many generations to come well get to see one of the best creatures ever.
