What do you like about motorcycles?

Do you like riding a motorcycle instead of driving a car? What are some good things about them? Also what are some of the bad things about them?

I'm asking because even though I've never ridden a motorcycle, I've always wanted one. I just think they're so cool and look like a lot of fun. Now that I have to get my own vehicle, I think I might get on instead of a car.

  1. Sportbikes and cruisers are totally different worlds

A sportbike will make you feel alive and even scare you into having fun, like a rollercoaster.

A cruiser is for enjoying the sights, like a paddleboat

  2. Since you are looking to get one instead of a car, take into consideration that motorcycles are largely "seasonal" transportation. They do get 50-70 MPG so they are good for gas mileage for a commute, but depending on where you live and what the climate is like, you might not be able to use it as your main form of transportation year-round. Think about extreme cold or hazardous weather conditions such as snow, rainstorms, hail etc...

Also you have to take safety into consideration. No one is safe driving around in a car, but at least you have the added protection of the framework of the car and/or airbags in the event of an accident. Most cyclists will lay their bike at least once, realistically several times over time and those that walk away with just a torn pair of pants or scratches are the lucky ones.

I think it would be wise to at least invest in a cheap car for those times of year that riding a cycle is not as convenient and just use good judgment when riding a cycle.

  3. It's versatile, unique and just plain fun! Some good things would be it's very fuel efficient and small, plus it makes you look cool :) Some bad things are, if recklessly driven, it can be your last ride. But on the bright side, drive safe and you'll be fine.

  4. Just seemed like a good idea a long time ago ,Still does

Bad a desert hail storm maybe -or-fla cops

  5. A motorcycle is just a more fun way to get around.

  6. Speeding, Performance, Stress relief and getting some fresh air.

  7. performance....

Hands down will smoke anything else on the road for the price...

also the open-air aspect is cool, kinda like a super narrow convertible...

  8. i like motorcycle it has a free feeling..

  9. First, you can maneuver a bike easier than a car. Second, you can see more of what is around you when riding as opposed to the pillar posts on a car being in your sight. Third, they offer a chance to get out and go on a minimal amount of fuel and you can think about things because there's no music or people talking. Just a relaxing feeling to ride 40 or 50 miles without worrying about things.

Can't really think of anything bad.

  10. pros: cheap (many start under 10 grand)

good fuel economy (i'm getting over 40 MPG on regular on a HD road king)

    cheap to insure

    open feeling when riding

    fits in smaller parking spaces

can use carpool lane (in some places)

cons: zero safety equipment for most (some high-end tourers have airbags, though)

lacking in basic car features (radio, cup holder, etc. though some are provided in high-end tourers)

    exposure to bad weather

riding gear can get hot at low speeds and loud at high speeds

lack of passenger and cargo room

generally, motorcycles are great for basic commuting and cruising, but it's a good idea to get a beater with 4 wheels and a roof for days when you need to carry people or things, or for bad weather

  11. I like that I'm alone. It's just me and the road. It's really mind clearing. When I'm riding I just forget about bills, work, everything. I've always loved speed so the thrill is good. The comradery of the sport bike community is always entertaining. (online & street)

The only thing that sucks about it is getting caught in the rain.

  12. Freedom, The Power, Agility. No such thing as traffic! I love riding. Get both if you can.

It's dangerous unfortunately. You rarely get hit or fall without getting scraped or hurt. Most bikers are hit by most morons behind a wheel of a car. Many bad drivers out there. Especially in the overcrowded NY area.
