  1. Long lines and faulty checkout software that overcharges for items. I would prefer to have someone else shop for me.

  2. i always appreciate friendly staff. i hate it when you ask where something is and you get an unfriendly response. if you don't know then just say so, no need for rudeness.

and good packers. i hate checkout people who don't fill up the bag. little things like that.

  3. I dislike asking an employee where a particular item is and having them look at me like I had dragged them away from the season finale of their favorite television show or as if I've just ruined their life.

I was in the grocery section of Walmart (did I mention how much I despise Walmart?) one day and I asked an employee where something was, can't remember what but it was a grocery item, and she actually pointed to the isle signs above and told me if I would just read them it would tell me exactly what was stocked on that isle.

Of course the item I was looking for was not listed as I had been reading the signs and going down isles for over 30 minutes before I even asked.  I finally found the item and it wasn't even close to the isle that contained similar items.  Another shopper actually directed me to the item and the only reason she knew was that she happened to see it while she was on that isle.

I also hate the fact that they frequently move items for no apparent reason and they move them where you would never dream of looking.

I also hate it when they quit stocking items that appeared to be a hot purchase because it seemed I would always get the last box.

  4. I hate paying.  Free groceries would enhance my shopping experience immensely.

My town has one of the best chains in the country, Wegmans.  Executives from other chains around the country come here to see for themselves  what they hear and read about in the trade papers, then take some of it back to where they're from.  People who've never been to this area go into a Wegmans store and their jaws drop and they say, "I wish we had stores like this back home"  The local economy  (in New York state) is weak (high taxes, welfare) so many younger people are moving away. When they come home for a visit, you often hear "I really miss Weggies."

There are always enough cashiers at the checkouts. Always.  Their bakery, deli and freshly-prepared food departments are incredible (if a little expensive) but their everyday prices are good.

BTW, I do not work for Wegmans.  It's just a great chain of stores.  I can't think of anything they need to improve on.

Except for letting me not pay :)

  5. Long lines at checkout.

people that won't their own groceries when they see there is a long line behind them.

  6. I have a low tolerance level for the uneducated and untrained employees working in grocery stores. I know it's not rocket science of brain surgery, but grocers should pay a decent wage and hire people who are at least as smart as the burger flippers at McDonalds.  40-Male
