What do you look for in a product to find out if the palm oil comes from a sustainable source?

companies like kiss my face and toms of maine say they use palm oil from a sustainable source, but they are on the top 20 list from the rainforest action network .

  1. Palm oil is squeezed from the coconut (the fruit if the coconut palm) and as such there are continuing new crops as long as the tree lives so to that extent all coconut oil is from a sustainable source.  That does not mean that palm oil is good for you.  It is one of the least desirable oils.  Generally classed as a "tropical oil"  to disguise that the oil is "palm oil".  If they are harvesting coconuts then they may be harvesting other products from the rain forest (or pacific islands) that are not sustainable like exotic woods.
