I've listened to his debates and sometimes I think he's spot on and it's refreshing to hear someone speak up about issues that need addressing and tackle the politically correct brigade but then again sometimes I think he just likes the sound of his own voice and doesn't really accept other people's points of views as much as other more balanced jounalists.

  1. He's an excellent broadcaster.

  2. Yes, he likes to hear his own voice.  Bit of a bore too.  So I don't listen any more.

I used to like Mike Dicken, sadly he's gone but I do miss him.

    Now he was spot on!!

Could be a bit rude at times, ( he didn't suffer fools at all) but he could make me laugh too.

Gaunty just doesn't match up in my opinion.

  3. I read his column in the Sun and often agree with him, he can be quite abrasive but i think that is his style. He has said some rather awkward truths, and i do think speaks for many people, not all the time but a lot of it.

  4. The name Gaunt, as in John of Gaunt is certainly famous - but I've never heard the modern day Gaunt as don't watch Talk Sport etc.

John of Gaunt, 1st Duke of Lancaster - Wikipedia, the free ...John of Gaunt, 1st Duke of Lancaster (March 6, 1340 – February 3, 1399) was a member of the House of Plantagenet, the third surviving son of King Edward III ...

  5. I think you are probably spot on in your assessment. 'Gaunty'

grew up in Coventry, the son of a Police Officer. He alleges that his background was not a happy one.

He initially was involved in running a night club, the Tic Toc in a difficult area of Coventry. Unfortunately that went bust, in fairness not all his own fault and he had some good ideas but that was the period when the City was ' getting like a Ghost Town'.

He then went into local radio and finally had to leave when his Sun newspaper column conflicted with his BBC role. He ran a controversial Saturday prog. on BBC CWR and he's very much like 'Marmite', you love him or generally hate him.

He was often very blunt to the point of rudeness with listeners cutting them off or even insulting them if he didn't agree with them. He boasted about how he had made it big time with a big house and a 'Jag u war ' as he used to pronouce it, also how he had met the 'country set' the hunting, fishing and shooting brigade.

In fairness he made and makes some good points but I think he could and should do it with a bit, no a lot, more diplomacy and he would probably be more effective.
