What do you make of the study finding that global warming is threatening Lake Tahoe?

A new study predicts water circulation in Lake Tahoe is being dramatically altered by global warming, threatening the lake's delicate ecosystem and famed clear waters.

The University of California, Davis study said one likely consequence is warmer lake temperatures that will mean fewer cold-water native fish and more invasive species — like carp, large-mouth bass and bluegill.

"What we expect is that deep mixing of Lake Tahoe's water layers will become less frequent, even nonexistent, depleting the bottom waters of oxygen," said Geoffrey Schladow, director of the Tahoe Environmental Research Center at U.S. Davis.

The new study showed that, if global greenhouse-gas emissions continue at current levels, mixing could become less frequent and less deep, and possibly stop as early as 2019

What do you make about this study? And nobody better talk trash about UC Davis!

  1. How did the invasive fish get into a lake with no incoming or exiting streams?

Makes me think the author has an agenda and a preconceived conclusion - especially since 'global warming' has reversed in the past few years.

  2. I think it's yet another testimony to the wonderful beauty of nature!

Nature is constantly destroying areas of beauty while it creates new areas of beauty where there was once nothing.

Compare Mount St. Helens from 20 years ago to today.

Or the ice sheets covering Greenland to its newly exposed lands (and the secrets they hold), green once again!

I think it is wonderful that nature continually recycles as part of its natural processes.

    Hey, that's life.

  3. Dana, theres more! Here is a almost-complete list of what global warming caused in less than 1 degree!

Dude, you and Jello should stop making questions and answering it yourself. It is very annoying. You both think your 100% right, we all do. Stop wasting your time.

And to answer your question, I think it is complete bull. Well at least if people say it is caused by man, it is bull.

Oh yeah, start asking questions about what you don't know. If you check my profile, I do exactly that. Unfortunitly, yahoo answers for some reason deleted my question on the graph with the sunspots, co2 and temperature thing.

  4. Well no science here,  but maybe Mother Earth has got a few more surprises up her sleeve ,   how about surviving the big bubble under yellowstone park , when it blows.

  5. This same thing happens nearly every summer in nearly every lake--mixing becomes less frequent, and the oxygen levels decrease. I find it unlikely that mixing will stop all together.

Further, many reasons can be contribute to lake stratification  and rising temperatures is only one. Land use changes, mainly development of the shoreline, can do terrible things to a lakes ecosystem.

  7. WOW! A NEW STUDY!!!

    Notice how it is singular.

I'm sure you believers also believe every "single" study that you hear for prescription drugs too? Am I correct?

  8. Large-mouth bass and bluegill rock!!  At least there aren't any negative consequences.  It will be interesting to watch the lake's ecology change with the climate.  I think it's fascinating!!

  9. Wow! What a  collection of snarky answers! Why is it , whenever real scientific proof is presented, the 'deniers' get rude and talk trash? I call'm "Flat Earthers"!

I saw that article yesterday. Sad!  This Earth is such a beautiful creation, and we're s******g it up! I saw that Fred Singer guy on "60 Minutes" last week. All the stupid talking points that the 'deniers' use,he spewed the very same garbage! The guy is a FRAUD!  His efforts to strangle all real discussion of AGW, borders on being a criminal act!

  10. I think I saw Rush Limbaugh at a golf tournement there awhile ago. Honestly? That's the first thing I thought of when I saw this story. Looking at his fat face  blubber for an excuse.

  11. Circulation does increase with warmer temperatures. Water stratifies based on a lot of different factors, and can also be man mixed if need be.

I would also like to know how the invasive fish magically appear.

BTW Algae blooms happen in cold water too and water color is based on many other factors than what they portray

  12. I'd worry more about sewage dumping then weather. Native species will survive if given a chance. Why don't you people focus on real problems? I have, actually seen whole ecosystems destroy over excess nutrients. You do know about colloidal dispersion?
