i know it mean put into categories already like would it mean to describe how cats are different from dogs? lol

Strictly, no. Classify means just what it says;  you understand it correctly. Your example, cats and dogs, is an exercise in taxonomy, part of biology.

More broadly, this is another example:

All men are mortal.

Socrates is a man.

Therefore Socrates is mortal.
