  1. this happened to us at work.  We had to install more RAM on the server.

  2. You've got too many pages or tabs open when browsing, also too many programs running, look at the icons on the taskbar, there programs currently running, right click on them and close

  3. memory means the same thing as ram.  Its used to store information that your processor want to retrieve more quickly then it can by reading off the hard drive.

Anything you save is permanently stored on the hard driver.  Stuff stored on the hard drive is often incorrectly called memory.  Assuming you have a semi-modern computer you have between 512mb and 4gb of ram/memory and between 60gb - 4000gb of hard drive space.

ideally your computer will never use 'virtual' memory.  But if it gets low on real memory it will use hard drive space (which is much larger) as memory so that your computer can keep running.  Using hard drive space as memory in place of ram is called 'virtual memory'.  Its not really memory, but windows pretends it is so that your computer can keep running.

Theres a way to tell windows to increase your virtual memory (i can't remember off hand, you can probably find a guide with a few searchers).  But i assume that windows automatically increases virtual memory when its needed.

This probably means that your low on hard drive space.  If this is the case, delete large files (video music or software) that you don't use anymore.

edit: in the future PLEASE provide more information about your problem.  It will get you much better answers.  ex, what are you doing when this happens.

  4. if your computer is modern, then your hard drive is getting full and the easiest way to fix that is to buy an external hard drive and move some of your larger files such as music and video over to that, those things get cheaper every day, or if you have an older computer, give your computer about a 1gb RAM upgrade and it will be just fine, either way, check this site out, it is very reliable and has everything your computer could ever want
