What do you need and how do you use the computer to make free phone calls?

I am wanting to call land lines and cell phones.

To call landlines, Skype will cost you..... but not very much.

For free PC-to-landline calling to anywhere in USA/Canada there is EarthCaller, by Jaduka Labs:

It runs from your web browser, so no big software downloads.... it's just a small web browser plug-in.

You just need a headset with microphone to use.

And, in this case Free means free..... as in No Money, and no credit cards.

It is free because it is in Beta development phase and they want to encourage people to try and test it.  I have used it and it seems to work pretty good..... for free.

plumble.com - still in alpha testing, but will provide free calls ad supported...

skype, yahoo voice, aim... all have voice call out abilities but need a money balance on your call out account... I can only say voice quality was not that great with skype..

There is a program called Skype which allows you to make calls from your computer.  It is free if you call to another computer that has skype, but if you call to a land line or cell phone, it costs some money.  You just need to download it and have a headset or device that has a microphone to speak into.

I just use the Yahoo Instant Messaging.  Hit the call button after I've initiated a chat with someone and they will hear a RING! RING on their PC.  Obviously both of you will need microphones and speakers.
